Myths

Myths are special types of stories. They are known as sacred stories and they try to explain the unknown. They are handed down through history and are based on tradition. Today we have many myths from particular people like the Greeks or Romans. These are usually linked to their religious beliefs.

Unlike fairy tales, some myths are not happy stories. They are written as guidance and as a warning. Many myths tell of gods and heroes.

You will also find some Legends listed under myths. This is because they are quite similar. But a legend is not a story made up to explain things. It is said to be a true story from a time long ago.

They are usually about real people or about a real historical event. So it can be hard to tell whether they are true stories or if the teller added some fancy bits for effect.

Some Legends have magical creatures like Dragons, Unicorns, Mermaids, flying horses and Griffins.
